About

I’m a journalist and broadcaster who writes and speaks about technology, media, business, society, religion and celebrity culture. I’m the Editor-in-Chief of The KernelYou can read about my writing here and my speaking engagements here and you can read what people have said about me here.

I was named in the 2011 WIRED 100 Digital Power List as one of European technology’s “movers and shakers”. I’m a mentor on the Springboard and 500 Startups accelerator programmes, where I help start-up companies work out how to get attention.

In my spare time I like KFC, Mariah Carey and guns. I spend a lot of my time in California because, well, America’s just better.

You can find out more about me by following me on Twitter.

Disclaimer

I don’t just write about tech and media companies; I work with them too. I’m also personal friends with many of their founders and senior staff. I don’t write about companies I consult for or have worked with in the past and I rarely write, except in passing, about companies whose founders or chief executives I’m personal friends with. (When I do, I’ll say so.)

I hold a small number of Apple shares and small equity stakes in a handful of start-ups. I write about Apple (how could I avoid it?) but I don’t write about those start-ups. And I obviously don’t write about start-ups for whom I serve as an ongoing advisor or board member. But I reserve the right to get involved with companies I’ve written about in the past and to work with companies who emerge from accelerator programmes for which I serve as a mentor.
